Last Thursday (April 29, 2010), a state bill passed prohibiting the creation of human-animal hybrid embryos.  Unfortunately, the state in question is Arizona;  http://chicagopressrelease.com/politics/ariz-targets-human-animal-hybrids-politico

Arizona's recent national reputation regarding its draconian immigration law will likely cast a bad light on Thursday's legislation.  Already, there is commentary indicating that the creation of such hybrids cannot be taken seriously, see e.g. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/5/2/862658/-Seriously-Arizona,-WTF
